Mount Elgon Hiking

Departure for Mount Elgon & Hike to Sasa Camp (2900m)

After an early breakfast, your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Entebbe or Kampala. Begin your scenic drive east towards Mount Elgon National Park (approx. 4-6 hours). Upon arrival at Budadiri (the park headquarters and trailhead for the Sasa route), you'll receive a briefing from park rangers, finalize park formalities, and meet your porters and guides. Begin your trek, passing through cultivation zones and then ascending into the montane forest. The hike on this day is quite steep, including the challenging 'Wall of Death' section, leading you to **Sasa Camp (2900m)** for dinner and overnight. (Approx. 7-8 hours hiking)

Hike to Mude Cave Camp (3500m) & Optional Peak Exploration

After breakfast, continue your ascent through bamboo forests and the heath zone. Enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding plains as you gain altitude. You will reach **Mude Cave Camp (3500m)**, strategically located near the caldera rim. After lunch at the camp, you have the option for a guided afternoon hike to **Jackson's Peak (4050m)**, offering incredible views into the caldera and across the vast wilderness. Return to Mude Cave Camp for dinner and overnight. (Approx. 6-7 hours hiking)

Caldera Exploration & Trek to Sipi Camp (3500m)

Today is dedicated to exploring the magnificent **Mount Elgon Caldera**, one of the largest intact calderas in the world. After breakfast, you will descend into the caldera, trekking through unique montane vegetation. Explore the caldera floor, visiting some of its 'hot springs' (which are often warm rather than boiling) and enjoying the immense scale of this geological wonder. The vastness and unique landscape within the caldera are truly breathtaking. Your trek will lead you to **Sipi Camp (3500m)**, often located within the caldera, for dinner and overnight. (Approx. 7-8 hours hiking)

Descent from Mount Elgon & Return to Entebbe/Kampala

After an early breakfast, begin your long descent from the mountain. You will descend via a different trail (often completing a loop back towards Budadiri or an alternative exit point like Kapkwata, depending on the chosen route) through varying vegetation zones including forest, bamboo, and ultimately back into cultivated farmlands. This day is primarily focused on the descent back to the park gate. Upon reaching the park gate, you'll have lunch and bid farewell to your mountain crew. Your driver will then transfer you back to Entebbe or Kampala (approx. 4-6 hours drive). You will be dropped off at your preferred location or Entebbe International Airport for your onward journey.
